In this last quarter of the twentieth century, what was hardly necessary only ten years ago, today is imperative, when it comes to information retrieval. The immense mass of information circulating in the world today, breaks all human, individual or collective possibility of gathering it, storing it and, most importantly, making it known. The traditional way of searching for materials in order to obtain information is being left behind, short-lived in the face of such a large amount of bibliography, general or specialized, that is published today. Libraries that do not use modern techniques to deliver, out of all this information, the one that suits the reader, and continue to handle documents as slowly as they were handled a century ago, are limiting the service, which should be dynamic and in line with the times, to a service that no longer meets the needs for which it was created.
