Evaluación de la calidad del agua en la parte media de la subcuenca del río Virilla, Costa Rica

Abstract

Evalúa la calidad del agua en la parte media de la subcuenca río Virilla, para determinar el grado de deterioro ambiental y cambios en la comunidad de macroinvertebrados bentónicos y contribuir así con información para el manejo de la cuenca. El área de estudio es en la parte media de la subcuenca del río Virilla, la cual se divide en cinco microcuencas. La microcuenca del río Tibás y la parte media del río Virilla, en los cantones de Heredia, Belén, Santo Domingo y San Isidro de Heredia. Se analiza la calidad del agua en siete puntos distribuidos en un sector de 20 km aprox. del río Virilla, que inicia en San Miguel de Santo Domingo y finaliza en San Antonio de Belén. El sitio de estudio, pertenece al sistema fluvial del río Grande de Tárcoles. Las muestras de macroinvertebrados se recolectan en cinco puntos de la parte media de la subcuenca río Virilla, y dos puntos de la parte baja del río Tibás, debido a que dicho río es el principal afluente del Virilla en este sector, con excepción del punto 7 (embalse Electriona de la Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz). Los sitios se seleccionan de acuerdo a características del entorno, velocidad del agua, uso del suelo, profundidad y accesibilidad. El periodo de estudio es de un año de marzo 2015 a marzo 2016 y se toman muestras de forma bimensual, total siete muestreos de época seca, lluviosa y de transición. El uso del suelo se genera a partir de la técnica de fotointepretación, los análisis fisicoquímicos se realizan en el Laboratorio de Manejo del Recurso Hídrico (LAMRHI) de la Escuela de Química de la UNA, y las muestras de macroinvertebrados se toman con una red tipo de D (500 µm de luz de malla).

Evaluates the water quality in the middle part of the Virilla River sub-basin, to determine the degree of environmental deterioration and changes in the community of benthic macroinvertebrates and thus contribute with information for the management of the basin. The study area is in the middle part of the Virilla river sub-basin, which is divided into five micro-basins. The Tibás river micro-basin and the middle part of the Virilla river, in the cantons of Heredia, Belén, Santo Domingo and San Isidro de Heredia. The water quality is analyzed in seven points distributed in a sector of approximately 20 km. of the Virilla River, which begins in San Miguel de Santo Domingo and ends in San Antonio de Belén. The study site belongs to the fluvial system of the Grande de Tárcoles river. Macroinvertebrate samples were collected at five points in the middle part of the Virilla river sub-basin, and two points in the lower part of the Tibás river, since said river is the main tributary of the Virilla in this sector, with the exception of point 7. (Electriona reservoir of the National Power and Light Company). The sites are selected according to characteristics of the environment, speed of the water, land use, depth and accessibility. The study period is one year from March 2015 to March 2016 and samples are taken bimonthly, a total of seven samples from the dry, rainy and transition seasons. The use of the soil is generated from the photo-interpretation technique, the physicochemical analyzes are carried out in the Laboratory of Water Resource Management (LAMRHI) of the School of Chemistry of the UNA, and the samples of macroinvertebrates are taken with a net type of D (500 µm mesh size).
