Caracterización integral de la captura del Dorado (Coryphaena hippurus) dentro del Sistema de Pesca Artesanal Semi-avanzada en el Litoral Pacífico Central, de la región Puntarenas.

Abstract

La pesquería artesanal es una de las principales actividades económicas del litoral pacífico; abastece el mercado interno de los productos pesqueros de consumo humano directo y mercados de exportación (Gumy et al, 1992). La flota nacional puede dividirse en dos grupos o sectores principales, artesanal e industrial. En este estudio se hará referencia al artesanal, conformado por varias categorías que se identifican con el respectivo tipo de pesca (costera, media avanzada o media altura y avanzada o de altura). A inicios de os años 80 la flota pesquera artesanal, en el litoral pacífico, comenzó a tener dimensiones en el volumen de especies capturadas, lo cual afectó la exportación en ese momento. El mercado se sostenía con especies tales como pargo y cabrilla. A partir de 1986 y debido a la disminución, por una aparente sobre explotación del recurso bentónico existe en la plataforma marina de Costa Rica (no hay investigaciones científicas al respecto), el pescador costarricense comenzó a surcar mayores distancias en busca de nuevos recursos pesqueros, llegando inclusive a aguas internacionales (200 millas o más afuera de la costa).
