The project “UNA Play and Recreation for Life” is an academic initiative of the Division of Basic Education (DEB) at the Center for Research and Teaching in Education (CIDE) of the National University of Costa Rica (UNA). It is aimed at the comprehensive training of students enrolled in the four degree programs offered by the DEB. Through the design and implementation of playful, recreational, and pedagogical activities across diverse contexts and populations, the project seeks to strengthen teaching competencies through experiential learning, play, movement, and emotional education. In addition to its formative purpose, the initiative promotes engagement with public educational communities and teachers through theoretical-practical workshops that foster inclusion, pedagogical mediation, and the creation of safe and meaningful learning environments. Within this framework, the UNAmonos group—composed of volunteer students—emerges as a collaborative strategy that encourages institutional identity, a sense of belonging, and professional commitment, while expanding personal and academic development opportunities. Since its inception in 2019, the project has evolved into an innovative and functional model that bridges theory and practice, contributing to the core mission of the university and reinforcing teacher education from a ludic and inclusive perspective.
