The purpose of this study was to identify the lifestyle of mentally retarded adults in Pérez Zeledón, specifically those who attend the Education Center for Disabled Adults (CEPADIS). The subjects (n: 41) were 19 women and 22 men aged between 18 and 60 years, all of them with moderate to severe mental retardation, most of them live with their relatives and others belong to shelters. A classification guide was prepared to determine the motor, emotional and social interaction component, which were answered by the parents or caregivers and teachers of the subjects. This instrument was applied only once. Results: it was determined that the male and female participants have an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle; they have little participation in physical or recreational activities; emotionally they are often cheerful, calm and affectionate, and at the same time anxious. Socially they tend to be isolated, solitary and have few friends; they almost never participate in groups, which indicates a low level of social interaction. It is recommended that specific intervention programs be developed to address the problems observed in the three components.
