The present investigation is about the translation of cultural elements on marked literature texts with the purpose of defining ona appropriate way to translate and to transmit them in the target culture. Skopos theory by Vermeer and Reiss, and different procedures previously practiced on marked literature texts were analyzed. Following the main purpose, that is to conserve the original marked cultural elements while an interested reader becomes familiar with the Costa Rican culture, a general strategy and different guidelines to translate marked literature texts were defined. As part of the process, some representative marked cultural elements were categorized and some segments from the book Concherías by the national poet Aquileo Echeverría were translated. As a result, a set of guidelines that guarantee the conservation of Costa Rican identity were defined.
