Indigenous Spiritualities of Costa Rica is an introductory text for a wide audience. The purpose of the work is to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about cultural diversity, expressed in ancestral oral traditions of the original peoples of Costa Rica. The impact of the conquest and colonization on beliefs and cultural structures and institutions was of such magnitude that they disappeared, or were intentionally made invisible in order to protect them; in any case, the fear of reprisals and the discredit caused by the new culture and religion caused cultural practices to fade with the passage of time. The people, in search of survival, were forced to take refuge in places of very difficult access in the jungle, not only in Costa Rica, but throughout the great Abya Yala. In addition, as an act of resistance and subsistence, they had to merge with the religious tradition imposed by the conquerors. The historical consequences oscillated between annihilation and acculturation. Only on a very small scale, in the south of the continent, the absolute isolation of some peoples was possible, in order to avoid all contact with the outside world, which has allowed them to survive until the present. These groups, even in the 21st century, subsist in the Amazon.
