This study analyzes the perceptions of SME owners in the Pérez Zeledón canton regarding the impact that the technical training provided by INA Brunca (during the 2002–2004 period) has had on their living and working conditions, with the aim of identifying social work interventions that can be implemented to help strengthen these businesses. The study population consists of 23 SMEs, the director of the Brunca Regional Unit, the director of the San Isidro Multipurpose Training Center, the head of the User Services process, and the social worker. A quantitative approach and the ethnographic method were used. The conclusions indicate that the technical training provided by INA Brunca has produced some changes in the productive and economic conditions of the enterprises; however, there is no clear evidence of results demonstrating a positive impact on the living and working conditions of the employees of these production units. Furthermore, of the total number of registered SMEs, only 51 have received training, highlighting the need to promote the training programs offered by the institute more widely.
