During the months of November 2014 to June 2015, the Professional Development System of the National University, under the direction of Professor Nuria Méndez Garita and the support of Professor Leidy Jiménez Dalorzo, academic advisor, organized a bimodal course (face-to-face and virtual) of training in methodology of Systematization of Experiences for the university environment. This proposal was a continuation of a similar process promoted in 2013 and 2014 with academic staff from the four public universities of Costa Rica, promoted by the inter-university training sub-commission of the National Commission of Rectors, CONARE. This course was organized with the purpose of understanding the epistemological and conceptual framework of the Systematization of Experiences, approaching its methodological proposals and exercising them through a practical and theoretical participatory exercise and thus contributing to incorporate into the academic practice a new approach and new tools that make it possible to enrich the same practices and, in turn, generate a critical dialogue stimulating learning and innovative searches in the university work. The systematization of experiences, as an exercise in the production of critical and transformative knowledge from practice, has been acquiring more and more relevance in the field of popular education in Latin America and in many other areas and places. Often confused with data collection or with the narration of events, or even with the production of a synthesis report of a project carried out, the conceptualizations around the systematization of experiences have been generating new and interesting points of reflection around its specific identity as part of the challenge of building new epistemologies that confront the traditional forms of production of scientific knowledge and the dominant forms of production and circulation of knowledge.
