Prison reintegration is a fundamental issue in light of the processes of social and economic integration and reintegration. This research considers the different variables and/or situations faced by people who have passed through the Costa Rican prison system from their release until their reentry into society. Another relevant aspect of this investigation was to determine whether there are stereotypes, stigmas, and/or prejudices that become obstacles that hinder or prevent male prisoners from finding employment, forcing them to resort to illegal means of obtaining financial compensation. Consequently, it was important to approach this topic from a sociological perspective in order to enrich the understanding of issues such as social justice, crime prevention, human rights, and society's perspectives on this population. Analyzing this topic from this perspective allows us to better understand the processes, challenges, and opportunities that this population faces after their release from prison, thereby achieving social and economic reintegration for male prisoners.
