Latin American and Caribbean universities are increasingly becoming contested territory due to the impact and challenges posed by the rapid and complex changes we have experienced in the region for at least three decades. This is a dispute over meanings and positioning in the face of these situations and challenges, which include controversies and debates in the academic field, but also in the media, social networks, and other spaces. Different conceptions of the world, of science, of sociocultural processes, of the role of knowledge, and of the characteristics, conditions, and meaning of its production clash with each other in the face of these challenges. All of this calls into question the traditional role of higher education institutions and demands a position on the need for public universities that not only respond to the changes brought about by the context, but also generate critical proposals and approaches to the modifications that should be made in light of this reality. It is not, therefore, a question of "adapting" to the dominant context currently marked by a mercantilist, patriarchal, colonialist, discriminatory, and exclusionary cultural matrix, making the University just another cog in the transmission belt of this cultural matrix. Rather, it is a question of deeply questioning the meaning of university work in the current context, generating critical and constructive visions and projections with a view to a different future. This volume compiles the course's final projects, which address very different experiences and allow us to appreciate the multiplicity of extension projects carried out in the different academic units of the UNA.
