A university intern in medicine is a senior in the career, who carries out his professional practice in different medical and surgical specialties of the hospital environment. Although the university internship is a professional practice, the current evaluation of this formative stage at the University of Costa Rica has a high theoretical component, which can be greater than 60%. It is intended to propose changes to the current evaluation process that favor the students' learning process, and, in turn, that apply to the reality of the hospital practice. The established norms that regulate the university internship and that involve aspects related to the evaluation are described. Next, an analysis of the components of the current evaluation (final exam, clinical rotations, and use) and its value in the training and learning of future doctors is carried out. Finally, with the contribution of different epistemological currents, changes to the evaluation process are proposed, and the application of strategies such as self-evaluation, coevaluation, as well as the creation of evaluation strategies and instruments that favor feedback are recommended.
