Resumen
Este documento sistematiza la experiencia del servicio "Valijas Viajeras" de la Escuela de Bibliotecología, Documentación e Información de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica durante el año 2025. El objetivo principal del programa es fomentar la lectura en la población infantil (de 3 a 12 años) que habita en zonas de vulnerabilidad social, especialmente en centros educativos que carecen de bibliotecas o recursos bibliográficos actualizados. Durante este periodo, el servicio logró una cobertura geográfica en siete instituciones distribuidas en las provincias de Limón, San José (Pérez Zeledón), Guanacaste (Upala) y Alajuela (San Carlos), alcanzando a un total de 366 niños y niñas.
El servicio se estructura mediante el préstamo de valijas temáticas que abordan contenidos como inteligencia emocional, valores, medio ambiente, derechos de la niñez y liderazgo. El proceso incluye una inducción personalizada para los docentes responsables, un periodo de préstamo flexible de dos meses (con opción a prórroga) y actividades de cierre pedagógico. Los resultados destacan la importancia de la itinerancia para reducir las brechas educativas y el fortalecimiento de alianzas con organizaciones como World Vision y el Tecnológico de Costa Rica para diversificar el impacto del fomento lector en el país.
This document systematizes the experience of the "Traveling Suitcases" (Valijas Viajeras) service, managed by the School of Library Science, Documentation, and Information at the National University of Costa Rica during 2025. The program's primary goal is to promote reading among children (ages 3 to 12) living in socially vulnerable areas, specifically targeting educational centers that lack libraries or updated bibliographic resources. During this period, the service expanded its geographical coverage to seven institutions across the provinces of Limón, San José (Pérez Zeledón), Guanacaste (Upala), and Alajuela (San Carlos), reaching a total of 366 children. The service is organized around the loan of thematic suitcases covering topics such as emotional intelligence, values, the environment, children's rights, and leadership. The process includes personalized induction for responsible teachers, a flexible two-month loan period (with an extension option), and pedagogical closing activities. The results highlight the importance of itinerant services in narrowing educational gaps and the strengthening of alliances with organizations such as World Vision and the Costa Rica Institute of Technology to diversify the impact of reading promotion throughout the country.
