The Brunca Region is home to most of Costa Rica's indigenous ethnic groups. The Brunca Regional Headquarters of the National University is linked to these communities through its substantive action, by means of extension. In this sense, it manages projects that respond to the areas of knowledge of the Headquarters: Education and Culture, as well as Society and Economic Development. One of these initiatives is the Program Promoting Community Social Capital in Indigenous Territories implemented by Headquarters and with the support of CONARE's Regionalization Funds. The topic addressed in this document is the process of cultural tourism in Guanacaste de Ujarrás that has been developed by the Shuwik group. The objective of this paper is to present the processes of communal cultural revitalization that are taking place with the aim of promoting employment-generating enterprises in the community of Guanacaste de Ujarrás in Buenos Aires, Puntarenas. The research carried out responds to a qualitative approach. Different procedures were applied for the collection of information, a first stage consisted of a survey that allowed the detection of training needs in the community, in the second stage the evaluation of the state of progress of the initiative of the Shuwik group and the level reached was carried out. In addition, specific information was collected from the indigenous territory through cards, an inventory of available resources (human, cultural, natural) was made and visits were made to potential attractions proposed by the group members. Some of the results obtained in this research are the definition of three routes in which emphasis is placed on the cultural-historical, natural and gastronomic component in the indigenous territory and part of the Talamanca Mountain Range, and accompaniment in the production of publicity material (business cards, brochures, web page). The contribution of this initiative is in line with the objectives of regionalization of the extension, facilitating the creation of bridges between the communities and the National University to enhance the community social capital of these populations, as well as the creation of assertive commitments that allow the communities to find support in the Regional Headquarters Brunca of the National University, becoming a necessary university for the strengthening of the identity of the region, as in the case of the Shuwik group, empowering them in the revitalization of their culture and through this, in the search for sources of employment for the community.
