This research analyzes the construction of female empowerment among the women who are part of the Board of Directors of the Pavones Community Development Association in Pérez Zeledón, based on social representations from the perspective of Denise Jodelet and a gender perspective, considering the vision of Marcela Lagarde. This study employs a qualitative approach, taking into account phenomenological thinking, which allows for an understanding of the sociodemographic, educational, and political characteristics of these women. Through the Theory of Social Representations, the study examines how the women perceive the concept of female empowerment based on their life experiences, and how they develop their roles within the organizational group based on this acquired knowledge. The study also analyzes the process from a gender perspective as a cross-cutting theme to identify the social and cultural structures that condition or enhance the empowerment processes these women are developing. The information obtained shows that the women participating in the Board of Directors have a very specific perception of female empowerment, focused on the economic growth of women residing in the community. However, their participation in the organization has allowed them to enhance their skills and abilities, which have an impact on community spaces. Their participation generates new socialization processes that are changing the dynamics of the population. This work demonstrates that, although these women have new perceptions that break paradigms related to female empowerment and gender equality, these perceptions also open up new challenges that women face daily, as well as greater needs and interests. They seek a community that is more knowledgeable and offers new perspectives on women within their own spaces, striving for a more egalitarian society.
