Ictiofauna asociada al manglar de Isla Palo Seco, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Abstract

Los manglares son un tipo de vegetación dominante en los estuarios tropicales y subtropicales (Blaber,2007. Estos ecosistemas se caracterizan por su gran variación estructural y por sus exclusivas condiciones fisicoquímicas que proporcionan un hábitat de cría, forrajeo y refugio esencial para gran cantidad de peces (Mwandya et al. 2010). La diversidad de peces en los ecosistemas de manglar presenta variaciones significativas dependiendo de la escala (global, latitudinal, regional y local) en que se investigue. El número de especies será producto de la influencia de los factores que operan en cada una de ellas. Por ejemplo, se ha documentado, que a escala regional la composición de especies está influenciada por la diversidad de hábitats, la estructura y la hidrología. (Blaber,2007). Es importante registrar la composición de especies de cada una de estas escalas debido a que es una condición sitio-específica. Por tal razón, el objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la diversidad de peces asociados al manglar de Isla Palo Seco, Puntarenas.

These ecosystems are characterized by their great structural variation and their unique physicochemical conditions that provide essential breeding, foraging and refuge habitat for large numbers of fish. (Mwandya et al. 2010). The diversity of fish in mangrove ecosystems presents significant variations depending on the scale (global, latitudinal, regional and local) at which it is investigated. The number of species will be the product of the influence of the factors that operate in each of them. For example, it has been documented that at a regional scale the composition of species is influenced by the diversity of habitats, structure and hydrology. (Blaber, 2007). It is important to record the species composition of each of these scales because it is a site-specific condition. For this reason, the objective of this research was to determine the diversity of fish associated with the mangroves of Isla Palo Seco, Puntarenas.
