In the last twenty-five years (1961 - 1986) Costa Rica has achieved a remarkable energy development, building large hydroelectric plants and perfecting the telecommunications system. Such development has allowed at some point the entry of foreign currency to our country, this with the sale of energy surpluses to Nicaragua and Honduras in some opportunities. If in the future this sale continues, it will allow Costa Rica to save more foreign currency by not having to pay transit services for empty earth stations. The duty of the Costa Rican is to recognize the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad for having contributed twenty five years, more than 200, 000kw that were the first rains that helped to elevate in fact the economy of the country. From the date when the public lighting service was inaugurated, using electricity as a medium, to 1986, one hundred and two years have passed. The current production is distributed as follows: Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad 75.86%. Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (owned by ICE) 18.24%. Junta de Servicios Públicos de Heredia (JSPH) and Junta Administrativa de Servicios Eléctricos de Cartago (JASEC) 5.9%. Today, thanks to the effort initiated in 1884 to develop the electrical sector in our country, we have achieved 100% nationalization of electricity. This development has benefited all the Costa Rican people: homes, industry and commerce. Through it, domestic chores have been facilitated and in the industry a greater economy has been achieved by using different machines that perform tasks in less time and give greater performance and efficiency, thus lowering production costs. In addition, we enjoy reliable, efficient and fast means of communication, this last point of vital importance in International Relations. The benefits we have obtained with the use of electricity are extensive; life has become less difficult for us, but something important has not been mentioned: "external financing".
