Resumen
La pasantía se llevó a cabo en el Centro Médico Veterinario Martínez y Vargas,
ubicado en el centro de Heredia, especializado en medicina de especies menores y exóticas.
La jornada de trabajo fue de ocho horas diarias, cinco días a la semana por un período de diez
semanas que comprendió del 13 de abril al 20 de junio del año 2015, con un total de 400
horas.
Los casos de animales exóticos y especies menores en los que se intervino y se observó
el abordaje, diagnóstico y tratamiento fueron registrados en una bitácora. En total se participó
en 179 consultas, de ellas 133 fueron de caninos, 23 de felinos y 23 de especies exóticas: 12
mamíferos pequeños, seis aves y cinco reptiles.
Este documento presenta los datos de la casuística, que detalla las especies animales
que acudieron a consulta, los motivos más frecuentes, la distribución según edad y sexo, los
exámenes de laboratorio y gabinete y los tipos de cirugía que se realizaron. Además, se
desarrollan dos casos de caninos diagnosticados con anemia hemolítica inmunomediada y una
cirugía para remover objetos extraños en el tracto gastrointestinal de una iguana verde (Iguana
iguana).
The externship was conducted at Centro Médico Veterinario Martinez y Vargas, located in Heredia, specialized in small animal clinic and exotic species. Eight-hour days were held, five days a week for a period of 10 weeks that included a period between April 13 to 20 June 2015. Cases of exotic animals and small animals where the student participated or observed the approach, diagnosis and treatment were recorded in a logbook. In total, the intern participated in 179 cases, of which 133 were from dogs, 23 cats and 23 exotic species: 12 small mammals, six birds and five reptiles. This document present the number of animals who consulted, the most frequent reasons, the distribution by age and sex, laboratory tests and the types of surgery performed. In addition, two cases of canine immune mediated hemolytic anemia are developed, and a surgery to remove foreign objects into the gastrointestinal tract of a green iguana (Iguana iguana).
