I imagine that for many, this question presents not only a stimulating exercise in self-reflection from the perspective of national identity but also a wide range of emotions. My answer to this question, then, will consider these two dimensions: 1) The reflective exercise concerning what it means to be Guatemalan, a dimension that stems from an existential, philosophical question, but whose answer should transcend that level to encompass historical, cultural, economic, and other aspects. 2) The dimension of feelings, that is, the subjective dimension, motivated by the particular way in which each person exists in the world and experiences the relationship between the personal self and the collective self. This other dimension is not merely tinged with subjectivism; rather, it is eminently subjective and should therefore be understood as a feeling.
