Education is a necessary process for every human being, as it enables individuals to develop and coexist in society. Currently, this process seeks comprehensive training, which includes cognitive development, values, skills, and abilities in the individual. Teachers and students interact in the process called Education. When two people are involved, the teaching-learning process occurs reciprocally. Teachers play a very important role because, based on the characteristics of the groups and the particularities of each individual, they define the type of strategy and methodology they can apply to achieve meaningful learning that contributes to the development of the human talent required by the workforce. Students, faculty, and organizations' personnel demands converge in this process. Considering the above, the proposed topic in this research, "Methodological strategies from a competency-based approach for the development of speed and accuracy skills in first-level typing techniques courses at the Professional Secretarial School of the National University during the 2015 academic year," has as its main objective the identification and development of methodological strategies that facilitate the mastery of typing techniques (speed and accuracy) within a competency-based model. The development of strategies within a competency-based model must consider different learning styles, such as auditory, visual, and kinesthetic, since teachers will be working with groups of people with different characteristics that influence their learning, such as: points of view, internalization and schematization of content, skills, among others. Therefore, the strategies selected by the teaching staff to achieve meaningful learning must respond to the needs of a student community characterized by this diversity of learning. The research was developed at the Professional Secretarial School, taking into consideration that the courses on which the study focuses, Basic Typing Techniques and Computer Typing Techniques I, belong to the Commercial Education and Office Administration careers offered by this Academic Unit, and therefore the majority of the population and subjects of information required are concentrated there.
