An experiment was carried out with larvae of Laguna guapote, Parachromis dovii, to determine the effect of the type of food on the proteolytic digestive activity and growth, in order to evaluate the possibility of eliminating the use of live food during the larval culture of this species. species. Two feeding protocols were established, one progressively replaced live food (Artemia nauplii) with inert food and in the second, inert food was supplied from the beginning. Survival, growth, and levels of acid (pepsin-like) and alkaline digestive proteases were analyzed over a 20-day period beginning on the eighth day after hatching (start of exogenous feeding). Survival was very high in both treatments, 99.1% with the live food protocol and 97.9% with the formulated food protocol, without representing a significant difference between both (P = 0.106). The total length and final weight was higher in the protocol with Artemia, 10 ± 0.25 mm and 81.31 ± 2.41 mg, compared to the formulated food, 3.94 ± 0.09 mm, and 20.64 ± 0.57 mg. The specific growth rate in total length (3.4% (1-1 ) (P = 0.009) and body weight (12.25 0/0 d- ) (P = 0.002) for the entire period was higher in larvae fed with the protocol than included live food. The total activity (U larva•l ) for both types of enzymes (alkaline and acid proteases) was higher in the protocol with live food, while the specific activity did not present significant differences between both protocols. In the protocol with live food, two peaks of total activity were presented at 16 and 24 DDE and one in specific activity at 16 DDE. The presence of acid and alkaline activity was determined from the beginning of the experiment in both protocols. The presence of activity acidic proteolytic when initiating exogenous feeding, suggests the ability of larvae to digest formulated diets. However, the currently supplied formulated feed causes poor growth, therefore co-feeding should be performed. n until you improve the current food.es_ES
