Medicina interna y cirugía de tejidos blandos en especies de compañía en dos Hospitales Veterinarios del Valle Central de Costa Rica.

Abstract

La presente pasantía fue realizada en el Hospital Veterinario Dr. Robert (HVDR) ubicado en Curridabat y en el Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres (HEMS) de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, ubicado en Heredia. Se trabajó un total de 360 horas, aproximadamente la mitad del tiempo en cada centro médico. Durante este tiempo se atendió un total de 273 pacientes. En el Hospital Veterinario Dr. Robert se atendió un total de 182 pacientes, siendo 134 casos de medicina interna y 48 casos quirúrgicos. En el HEMS el total atendido fue de 91 casos, 38 de medicina interna y 53 de cirugía. A lo largo de la realización de la pasantía se participó en el proceso de ingreso, evaluación y abordaje de los pacientes, a su vez se presenciaron y asistieronlos procedimientos quirúrgicos, durante el pre, trans y post operatorio, así como los de medicina interna. Siempre bajo la supervisión del encargado. Se llevó una bitácora con la información relevante de cada paciente con la que se estuvo en contacto, información que posteriormente fue detallada y analizada según se consideró pertinente. Adicionalmente se expone un caso cuyo interés médico, abordaje multidisciplinario y poca frecuencia de aparición lo hace de especial interés clínico.

The present internship was carried out in the Dr. Robert Veterinary Hospital (HVDR) located in Curridabat and in the Hospital of Small and Wild Species (HEMS) of the National University of Costa Rica located in Heredia. A total of 360 hours were completed during the internship. About half of this time was spent in each of the two institutions. A total of 273 patients were attended during this time. 182 patients were treated in the Dr. Robert Veterinary Hospital. Out of these patients 134 were cases of internal medicine and 48 were surgery cases. A total of 91 cases were treated in the HEMS. Out of these patients 38 were cases of internal medicine and 53 were surgery cases. The internship consisted of participating in the process of admission, evaluation and treatment of the patients. The participation embraced assisting in surgical procedures (before, during and after the surgery) as well as attending cases of internal medicine. The internship was duly supervised all the time. The information of each patient was recorded in the workbook. Whenever necessary the information was later analysed and studied more in-depth. Furthermore, an important case is presented. Multidisciplinary approach to this case and its rare occurrence contributes to the importance of clinical knowledge.
