Resumen
Realiza un diagnóstico clínico integral en el abordaje de aves de compañía enfermas. Los casos clínicos fueron abordados en cinco aviarios de Costa Rica y en el Hospital de especies menores y silvestres de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Nacional entre los meses de mayo y agosto del 2006. Se examinó un total de 59 aves de compañía de diversas especies, sexo, edad y peso, de las cuales 57 eran psitácidos, uno paseriforme y otro un ranfástido. Se realizó un examen físico a cada una, pruebas de rutina como exámenes parasitológicos, dependiendo del cuadro clínico se decidió llevar a cabo hemogramas, química sanguínea, citologías, biopsias de piel, e imágenes diagnósticas. Los casos más comunes encontrados fueron los problemas dermatológicos, seguidos por fracturas y problemas respiratorios.
It performs an integral clinical diagnosis in the approach of sick pet birds. The clinical cases were treated in five aviaries in Costa Rica and in the Minor and Wild Species Hospital of the School of Veterinary Medicine of the National University between May and August 2006. A total of 59 pet birds of different species, sex, age and weight were examined, of which 57 were psittacids, one passerine and one a frogfastid. A physical examination was performed on each one, routine tests such as parasitological examinations, depending on the clinical picture it was decided to carry out hemograms, blood chemistry, cytology, skin biopsies, and diagnostic images. The most common cases found were dermatological problems, followed by fractures and respiratory problems.
