Manual de introducción a la radiología equina

Abstract

Este texto fue escrito por los autores entre los años 2013 y 2014 como un capítulo del libro denominado “Fundamentos de Cirugía en Especies Mayores” que la Cátedra de Cirugía de Especies Mayores, Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria, Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica, tiene en proceso para impresión, pero debido a un serio accidente ocurrido al coautor M. Estrada con un caballo durante la toma de una radiografía, no fue posible terminar dicho libro todavía. Debido a la pandemia Covid19 tuvimos que pasar todos los cursos de la carrera de Medicina Veterinaria a formato virtual (“presencialidad remota”) y para efectos de facilitar el aprendizaje de algunos fundamentos de utilidad en “Radiología de Especies Mayores” se decidió imprimir el capítulo mencionado en forma de manual, incluyendo una lista de consejos prácticos que pretenden mejorar la calidad y la interpretación de la imagen obtenida. Aunque esta obra se escribió de urgencia para suplir necesidades de los estudiantes del “Internado Rotatorio de Especies Mayores” 2020, creemos que será también de gran utilidad para los alumnos de otros cursos ofrecidos por nuestra escuela en «Anatomía», «Propedéutica Clínica de Especies Mayores», «Propedéutica Quirúrgica e Imágenes Médicas», «Medicina Interna de Especies Mayores» y «Cirugía de Especies Mayores», así como para cualquier Médico Veterinario, estudiantes de otras escuelas de Medicina Veterinaria o profesionales interesados. Eventualmente, esta publicación (versión “Acceso Libre en Internet”) puede contribuir también a suplir a nivel iberoamericano, las mismas necesidades docentes que las existentes aquí y ese es un beneficio secundario, con proyección social internacional de nuestra querida escuela, que favorece a estudiantes de diferentes países hispanoparlantes sin biblioteca disponible ni dinero para pagar los costosos libros de texto escritos en otros idiomas. A pesar de que el coautor J. Estrada McDermott no está laborando actualmente con la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria, UNA-CR pues se encuentra terminando estudios de postgrado en Colorado State University (USA), accedió a colaborar en la finalización de este trabajo.
