In his foreword to the book Journalists and tycoons, Armand Mattelart (2006) states that, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and with the irruption of new information technologies, a "project of society" has been set in motion on a global scale, determined by the use and control of the information resource, and that this project has become a "project of society" of the information resource. What would be the characteristics of such a society, when today we are witnessing the concentration of ownership of the media -and of the cultural industries- in a few business conglomerates? What would be the place and role of Latin American countries?
