organismos: 20 hembras tratadas, 20 hembras control y 30 machos.
Eye ablation is a technique used in the reproduction of crustaceans, being in turn harmful to organisms. Alternative techniques have been investigated to stimulate sexual maturation in commercial species. This work aims to verify the combined use of serotonin and spiperone as an effective technique for ovarian maturation in Litopenaeus vannamei females and to evaluate its possible effect on the release of ovarian maturation-inducing sex pheromones. Three experimental tanks with female and male broodstock were used. Each tank had 70 organisms: 20 treated females, 20 control females and 30 males. Tanks 1 (T1) and 2 (T2) had 20 females injected with serotonin and spiperone at two concentrations, and tank (T3) had 20 ablated females. With control females, the indirect effect of the three treatments on the induction of sexual maturation was discovered. The state of sexual maturity of the females was analyzed by calculating the ovarian maturation index (IMO). The spawning quality of each female fertilized by the males was evaluated by counting the total number of eggs and nauplii and the hatching percentage. A sexual maturation was obtained in the females of the three treatments and their controls. T2 obtained the maximum IMO value in control females and T3 obtained the minimum value in control females. The average IMO between the treated females and the control females of T2 and T3 showed significant differences (p<0.05). For spawning quality, in T1 and T2 they recorded the highest number of matings in non-injected females (control). The effectiveness in the ovarian maturation of the control females was shown, which gives a first step towards the acceptance of the presence and release of sexual pheromones induced by the injection of serotonin and spiperone in this species.
