Resumen
La sociedad costarricense ha sido consiente que el sistema educativo presenta importantes deficiencias en lo referente a la formación matemática. Por ello es necesario generar soluciones satisfactorias ante la problemática. Así durante muchos años se ha hablado de diversos foros y mediante diferentes medios sobre la problemática de la enseñanza de las matemáticas, sobre todo en el ámbito de la enseñanza media. No obstante, son escaso los trabajos serios que describe, con detalle la realidad de esta enseñanza, tanto cuantitativa como cualitativamente. La mayoría de los estudios realizados reflejan solamente, aspectos muy parciales y no han permitido establecer, un diagnostico global al estado del proceso, de enseñanza y aprendizaje de las matemáticas que permita proponer soluciones integrales.
Costa Rican society has been aware that the educational system has important deficiencies in relation to mathematical training. Therefore, it is necessary to generate satisfactory solutions to the problem. Thus, for many years there has been talk in various forums and through different media about the problem of teaching mathematics, especially in the field of secondary education. However, there are few serious works that describe, in detail, the reality of this teaching, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Most of the studies carried out reflect only very partial aspects and have not allowed establishing a global diagnosis of the state of the process, teaching and learning of mathematics that allows proposing integral solutions.
