Pasantía en medicina y cirugía de especies menores en Clínica Veterinaria Florense, Heredia, Costa Rica

Resumen
Se realizó una pasantía de 340 horas en Clínica y Farmacia Veterinaria Florense, ubicada en Heredia, en un período comprendido entre el 1 de agosto y el 23 de septiembre de 2023. El principal objetivo de esta pasantía fue fortalecer los conocimientos y destrezas, tanto, en el ámbito clínico como quirúrgico en especies de compañía. Durante este lapso, se participó en un total de 334 casos, siendo parte de la atención de consultas, toma de muestras, realización de pruebas complementarias, vacunaciones, manejo y medicación de pacientes; así como en un total de 61 cirugías, participando de los distintos tiempos quirúrgicos. El motivo de consulta más frecuente fue la atención de casos en donde estaba implicado el tracto gastrointestinal, presentándose en 35 (28,5%) de 123 consultas médicas atendidas; en segundo lugar, se encuentran las afectaciones del sistema musculoesquelético con 21 (17,1%) consultas y en tercer lugar aquellos problemas de origen dermatológico y genitourinario en 13 (10,6%) ocasiones cada una. Por su parte, en cuanto a cirugías, las que se realizaron con mayor frecuencia, fueron las castraciones, realizándose diez ovariohisterectomías (OVH) y diez orquiectomías, reflejando un 32,8% de las cirugías en total. Durante este periodo, se evidenció la importancia de la práctica para el desarrollo profesional, permitiendo obtener nuevas habilidades y conocimientos para el ejercicio de la medicina veterinaria.
A 340-hour internship was carried out in Florense Veterinary clinic and pharmacy, located in Heredia, within the period from August 1 to September 23, 2023. The main objective of strengthening knowledge and skills, both in the clinical and surgical scope in companion species. During this period, we participated in a total of 334 cases, being part of the care of consultations, taking samples, performing complementary tests, vaccinations, management and medication of patients; as well as in a total of 61 surgeries, participating in the different surgical times. The most frequent reason for consultation was the care of cases in which the gastrointestinal tract was involved, appearing in 35 (28.5%) of 123 edical consultations attended, in second place were affections of the musculoskeletal system with 21 (17.1%) consultations and in third place those problems of dermatological and genitourinary origin on 13 (10.6%) occasions each. For its part, in terms of surgeries, those performed most frequently were castrations, with 10 OVH and 10 orchiectomies performed, reflecting 32.8% of the surgeries in total. During this period, the importance of practice for professional development became evident, allowing new skills and knowledge to be obtained for the practice of veterinary medicine.
