This essay, the title of which suggests a Bachelardian ancestry, has, in spite of this, an interest that I would like to call Straussian. Indeed, from a reading of the first four chapters of Thomas Hobbes' De Cive (1588-1679), I argue that the unfolding of the human in its political (civic) form requires the satisfaction of fundamental minimums that are, at the same time, the platform from which the complex of processes and creations that make a human world (civility) possible emerge.
