Se analizó la tendencia genética y ambiental de la producción de leche en poblaciones Holstein (H/n =1352 toros, 7392 vacas, 129 fincas) y Jersey (J/n = 601 toros, 2405 vacas, 70 fincas nacidas entre los años 1979 y 1992. Se utilizó un modelo animal de repetibilidad con una matriz de parentesco reducida y clasificación de padres y madres desconocidos dentro de grupos genéticos. La variable analizada fue la producción de leche a 305 días corregida por número de lactancia y época de parto (P305).
