This work intents to study the dermical illnesses of the equines in Costa Rica and the diagnostic methods used and available, setting the nature and incidence of these illnesses. The methodology used was supported by all the resources available and needed in order to detect and diagnose the illnesses adequately, to adequately gathering, assuring and transporting of the samples and in the resources of the laboratories at National University, School of Veterinary Medicine. The outcomes of this work are derived from six months of controlled practice. During this period 611 equines were attended. We determined that 52% of the cases were reproductive cases, 31% muscular esqueletic problems and 3,5% dermical issues. In absolute terms, 21 cases were registered as skin problems, an average of fewer than a weekly case, comprehended neoplasical illnesses (43%) from which the sarcoid was the most representative with 5 cases, followed by melanoma with 3 cases of carcinoma of scaly cells. Habronemiasis was detected in 2 severe cases. It was noted that insect hipersensibility appears the most common allergic illness of the skin and there were detected four cases of it. It was identified a reduced number of idiopathic affections and foot diseases. The work discusses in detail the treatments applied and the outcomes obtained in the most significant cases. The work finishes with a detailed differential diagnostic table of 23 dermatological equine illnesses.
