With the increase of informal economic activities in San José, informal street vending is emerging as a way to survive, even though there is a constant struggle by the authorities to eradicate them. As a result, the public space, as the scene of busy daily life and the center of people's gatherings, constantly undergoes transformations that modify its social, cultural, political and economic dynamics. On the one hand, the Municipality of San José plans and projects the uses and specific image of the public space in San José; on the other hand, there are the street vendors who, in the exercise of their work, reconfigure the established meanings and uses of the public spaces according to their needs, needs, work and daily practices. The main objective of the research is to interpret the reconfiguration that the public space undergoes from the dynamics of informal street vending in the main boulevard of the capital, as it directly affects the dynamics of society and how it is shaped, which justifies the importance of investigating them. At the national level, there are few sociological studies on the subject, which leaves a research gap; the cultural, social and economic contribution of the subjects, in addition to interpreting their participation in the constant processes of change of the space and how their dynamics intervene in it. The document presents background information on public space and street vending, as well as national and international research; the problematization of the relation between street vending, reconfiguration and public space. The theoretical aspect contains a conceptual framework integrated by the concepts of space, informal economy, appropriation and reconfiguration. The work strategy proposed for the research proposal is comprehensive, with aqualitative approach and a phenomenological perspective, which allow for a more in-depth approach to the research problem, in conjunction with the proposed techniques.
