Resumen
El objetivo general de la investigación es analizar las razones por las cuales las personas del Cantón Central de la provincia de Heredia deciden adquirir una tarjeta de crédito. La idea de realizar esta investigación surge luego de una serie de interrogantes e inquietudes generadas tras la tendencia hacia el crecimiento en el consumo de tarjetas de crédito que se ha venido presentando en el país con el paso de los años. El Ministerio de Economía Industria y Comercio de Costa Rica (MEIC) muestra una comparación de algunos datos relacionados con tarjetas de crédito en el país. En el periodo 2016 hubo una variación con respecto a 2015 de 35 tipos de tarjetas de crédito nuevas, además la circulación de éstas aumenta un 17.3% y la deuda por tarjetas de crédito incrementa en un 10.9%, datos que alientan a investigar específicamente cuáles son las razones por las cuales las personas deciden adquirir una tarjeta de crédito. La investigación se efectúa aplicando un cuestionario a una muestra de la población del Cantón Central de la provincia de Heredia, quienes deben poseer al menos una tarjeta de crédito activa y tener entre 20 a 60 años de edad por la naturaleza del proyecto. Se realiza una entrevista a funcionarios de las siguientes entidades financieras: BAC San José, Banco Popular, Scotiabank y Credix World, con el fin de obtener datos por parte de los tarjetahabientes y las entidades emisoras para enriquecer el análisis de la información obtenida y dar respuesta a los objetivos planteados.
The overall objective of this research is to analyze the reasons why people in the Central Canton of Heredia province decide to acquire a credit card. The idea for this study arose after a series of questions and concerns generated by the growing trend in credit card use that has been occurring in the country over the years. The Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Commerce of Costa Rica (MEIC) presents a comparison of some data related to credit cards in the country. In 2016, there was a change compared to 2015 of 35 new types of credit cards, in addition to an increase in credit card circulation of 17.3% and an increase in credit card debt of 10.9%. Data that encourages specific research into the reasons why people decide to acquire a credit card. The research is conducted by administering a questionnaire to a sample of the population of the Central Canton of the province of Heredia. Due to the nature of the project, the population must have at least one active credit card and be between 20 and 60 years of age. Interviews are conducted with officials from the following financial institutions: BAC San José, Banco Popular, Scotiabank, and Credix World. The purpose is to obtain data from cardholders and issuing entities to enrich the analysis of the information obtained and address the stated objectives.
