Resumen
La información sobre la permanencia en la educación superior en Costa Rica, y
específicamente en la Universidad Nacional es muy limitada y se ha abordado
principalmente desde dos perspectivas: deserción y graduación. este
estudio ofrece un enfoque conceptual y metodológico de la permanencia educativa que
incluye una tipología que clasifica a cada estudiante en seis poblaciones en función de
la deserción, rezago y graduación. Se efectuó un estudio con 5 cohortes comprendidas
entre los años 2005 y 2009; los resultados mostraron que por cada 100 estudiantes que
ingresaron a la Universidad Nacional dentro de este lapso, aproximadamente 46 se
graduaron y 46 eran desertores potenciales. Además, 31% de los estudiantes lograron
su graduación dentro del tiempo establecido en su plan académico y el 15% lo
completaron posteriormente, la mayoría de ellos con un año de retraso.
