El 89 de Costa Rica: otra interpretación del levantamiento del 7 de Noviembre

Abstract

El azar es, sin duda, irónico: tras 100 años, 3 meses y 24 días del "89" francés, San José tuvo el suyo, pero sin Bastilla y casi falto de sangre. La "oficialización" de 1989 como año del centenario de la democracia costarricense", es después de todo útil y no únicamente desde la perspectiva del bufón y del cortesano. La designación a parte del circo y la maroma que supone de por sí, invita a envolver con cierto detalle: a) la trayectoria de la historiografía política nacional; b) el contexto social de la movilización plebeya; y c) el problema histórico de la democracia en Costa Rica.

Chance is, without a doubt, ironic: after 100 years, 3 months and 24 days of the French "89", Saint Joseph had his, but without Bastille and almost lacking in blood. The "officialization" of 1989 as the year of the centenary of Costa Rican democracy "is after all useful and not only from the perspective of the buffoon and the courtier. The designation apart from the circus and the rogue that it implies in itself, invites us to involve in some detail: a) the trajectory of national political historiography; b) the social context of plebeian mobilization; and c) the historical problem of democracy in Costa Rica.
