Primer reporte molecular de Streptococcus suis y Glaesserella parasuis en hatos porcinos de Costa Rica

Resumen
Streptococcus (S.) suis y Glaesserella (G.) parasuis son bacterias que afectan principalmente a cerdos y son de alta relevancia en la producción porcina. Estas bacterias están asociadas a enfermedades sistémicas, causando meningitis, poliserositis, artritis, neumonía y septicemia, lo que genera altas mortalidades repercutiendo económicamente en los hatos porcinos. Además, S. suis es un agente zoonótico, el cual se ha reportado que puede causar meningitis y sepsis en humanos. Hasta el momento en Costa Rica, no hay reportes científicos de la presencia de estas bacterias en los hatos porcinos.
Streptococcus (S.) suis and Glaesserella (G.) parasuis are bacteria that mainly affect pigs and are highly relevant in pig production. These bacteria are associated with systemic diseases, causing meningitis, polyserositis, arthritis, pneumonia, and septicemia, which leads to high mortality rates and has an economic impact on pig herds. In addition, S. suis is a zoonotic agent, which has been reported to cause meningitis and sepsis in humans. To date, there have been no scientific reports of the presence of these bacteria in pig herds in Costa Rica.
