Dora Grainger lo expresa al decir Every body can go, some body of to stay and bring it up (todos no podemos irnos, alguien tiene que quedarse para levantar de Nuevo la comunidad negra). Por su parte, Josefina Cooper dice: Black and White together, not only color (negros y blancos juntos, no solo negros).
It was something chil, It was something beautiful (era algo hermoso).
The initial idea was to find out why there are black Catholics in the Atlantic region, but soon the people interviewed brought back a world of memories that went beyond that goal. I am grateful for their initiative. Thanks to it, I have collected data on the history of the black community of the Catholic Church in Puerto Limón. I have come to understand the value and richness of this "rest of the community" that continually struggles to maintain itself in its Church, despite the existing obstacles. Dora Grainger expresses it by saying Everybody can go, some body of to stay and bring it up. Josephine Cooper says: Black and White together, not only color. I write this paper in the hope of reliving those times. Margarita Pinnok expresses what those times were like: It was something chil, It was something beautiful. In this research I have gathered memories about the activity of the Catholic Church, the situation of the majority of black people in Limón; it is an oral compilation.
