A methodological proposal to improve the descriptive paragraph writing skills of eleventh grade students from Colegio Ambientalista Isaías Retana Arias in Pérez Zéledón

Abstract

Esta investigación se realizó en el Colegio Ambientalista Isaias Retana Arias en Pérez Zeledón. Esta es una institución pública y se construyó en el año 2000. El proyecto trata sobre la mejora de las habilidades de escritura de párrafos descriptivos de los estudiantes de undécimo grado en el Colegio Ambientalista Isaias Retana Arias en Pérez Zeledón a través de la aplicación de diferentes técnicas. También proporciona un marco teórico y metodológico para apoyar la enseñanza de la escritura en las clases de inglés. El proyecto propone la implementación de varias técnicas de escritura que proporcionan información útil sobre la estructura de párrafo adecuada y proporciona información sobre actividades y ejercicios utilizados para fomentar la habilidad de escritura.

El primer capítulo consiste en la descripción del proyecto, histórico antecedentes, el problema y su importancia. Además, hay información sobre los principios establecidos por el MEP para la enseñanza de esta habilidad. Además, se presentan algunos aspectos como la población y la muestra, los objetivos, la pregunta de investigación, la hipótesis y las limitaciones del estudio. El marco teórico se incluye en el Capítulo ll. Incluye información sobre lo que los teóricos sobresalientes han escrito sobre la habilidad de escritura en la enseñanza del inglés como lengua extranjera. Todos los datos se utilizan para apoyar el desarrollo de la escritura. El Capítulo III incluye los enfoques para la enseñanza de la escritura y las técnicas de escritura. El Capítulo IV proporciona una descripción detallada del proceso. Describe el proyecto mismo; El tipo de investigación y los procedimientos de enseñanza realizados. El análisis de datos también se incluye en este capítulo. Se diseñaron cuatro tipos diferentes de instrumentos para recopilar información y llevar a cabo este proyecto. Los instrumentos aplicados fueron un cuestionario para el profesor, otro para los alumnos,un pretest y un posttest. Luego, el folleto se incluye en el Capítulo V, que es la propuesta sugerida por los investigadores como respuesta a los resultados obtenidos después del desarrollo de la investigación. Consiste en un conjunto de técnicas de escritura y ejercicios. También proporciona a maestros y estudiantes consejos útiles sobre la habilidad de escritura y párrafos descriptivos. Finalmente, un conjunto de conclusiones sobre los resultados de la investigación y varias recomendaciones se exponen en el Capítulo VI. La bibliografía y los anexos se pueden encontrar al final de este proyecto. En resumen, este proyecto proporciona a los maestros información sobre la enseñanza de la habilidad de escritura y patrones de párrafos descriptivos que pueden ser útiles para futuros estudios.

This research was carried out at Colegio Ambientalista Isaias Retana Arias in Pérez Zeledón. This is a public institution and it was built in the year 2000. The project is about the improvement of the descriptive paragraph writing skills of eleventh grade students at Colegio Ambientalista Isaias Retana Arias in Pérez Zeledón through the application of different techniques. lt also provides a theoretical and methodological framework to support the teaching of writing in the English classes. The project proposes the implementation of several writing techniques which provide useful information about the adequate paragraph structure and supplies information about activities and exercises used to foster the writing skill.

The first chapter consists of the description of the project, historical background, the problem and its importance. Also, there is information about the principies established by the MEP for the teaching of this skill. In addition, some aspects such as the population and sample, objectives, research question, hypothesis and the limitations of the study are presented. The theoretical framework is included in Chapter ll. lt includes information about what outstanding theorists have written regarding the writing skill in the teaching of English as a foreign language. Al the data are used to support the development of the writing skill. Chapter III includes the approaches to teaching writing and writing techniques. Chapter IV provides a detailed description of the process. lt describes the project itself; the type of investigation and the teaching procedures carried out. The data analysis is also included in this chapter. Four diferent types of instruments were designed to gather information and carry out this project. The instruments applied were a questionnaire for the teacher, another for the students, a pretest and a posttest. Then the booklet is included in Chapter V, which is the proposal suggested by the researchers as an answer to the results obtained after the development of the investigation. lt consists of a set of writing techniques and exercises. lt also provides both teachers and students with useful tips on the writing skill and descriptive paragraphs. Finally, a set of conclusions about the results of the research and several recommendations are stated in Chapter VI. The bibliography and annexes can be found at the end of this project. In brief, this project provides teachers with information about the teaching of the writing skill and descriptive paragraph patterns which can be useful for further studies.
