¿Quién no escuchó alguna de las canciones de Facundo Cabral? Algunas de ellas se han convertido ya en lugares comunes que la gente repite sin saber de dónde proceden, lo que quiere decir que han pasado a convertirse en parte del imaginario colectivo latinoamericano. Cabral formó parte de una pléyade de cantores latinoamericanos que han puesto sobre la palestra signos de identidad que hoy caracterizan a todo el subcontinente. ¿Quién, lejos de este continente isla, no siente erizársele la piel al escucharlo a él, o a Mercedes Sosa, a Víctor Heredia, sus compatriotas, o a los cubanos Silvio Rodríguez o Pablo Milanés, entre otros? Es una música en donde está presente siempre la guitarra, arma de combate de quienes no tienen más que la cultura para plantarse en el mundo y hacerse oír.

Cabral was part of a constellation of Latin American singers who brought to the forefront symbols of identity that now characterize the entire subcontinent. Who, far from this island continent, doesn't get goosebumps listening to him, or to Mercedes Sosa, Víctor Heredia, his compatriots, or to the Cubans Silvio Rodríguez or Pablo Milanés, among others? It's music where the guitar is always present, a weapon of choice for those who have nothing but culture to stand out in the world and make themselves heard.
