The work we are pleased to present brings together a set of case studies and a cross-sectional analysis of public policies for family farming in eleven Latin American countries, complemented by an interpretative essay on the public policy implications arising from the main international events of the International Year of Family Farming in Latin America. It addresses the situation of family-based agriculture in each of them and the evolution of policies focused on family farming or that directly impact it, as well as the definitions, typologies, and instruments to guide and implement these policies. Finally, it assesses their results and impacts, their current perspectives, and the main challenges facing these policies and the various family farming systems in the hemisphere. This collective effort, in which some thirty authors participated, was promoted by the Network on Public Policies and Rural Development in Latin America and had the support of CIRAD, ECLAC, and IICA.
