The objective of this research is to determine if the payment capacity, guarantees, client categorization and the time of operation of the microenterprise are limitations faced by microentrepreneurs in order to be creditworthy in the district of San Isidro de El General in the canton of Pérez Zeledón. This research was conducted during the months of July to December 2007, in individuals or legal entities, microentrepreneurs who need or have been subject to credit in the district of San Isidro de El General of the canton of Perez Zeledon. The study is quantitative. A convenience sample was used to select the sample, which consisted of 66 microentrepreneurs, to whom the information gathering tools of the questionnaire and the interview were applied. In general, it can be concluded that payment capacity is a limiting factor for microentrepreneurs in the canton of Pérez Zeledón, as long as the applicant supports his or her income with proof of salary; however, it should be noted that the microentrepreneur can access a larger amount of credit if he or she supports his or her income with financial statements. In addition, with respect to collateral, it is concluded that it is not a limiting factor for it to be accepted as a credit guarantee; however, the amount to be financed is considerably affected by the depreciation factor, since the financial entities take into account the decrease in value of the movable property with the passage of time.
