Medicina interna, cirugía de tejidos blandos y dermatología en especies de compañía en la Clínica Veterinaria San Martín del Este, San José, Costa Rica

Resumen
La pasantía fue realizada durante ocho semanas, para un total de 400 horas, en la
Clínica Veterinaria San Martín del Este, ubicada en Sabanilla, Montes de Oca. La
clínica cuenta con la atención de consultas generales en animales de compañía,
cuenta con las especialidades de dermatología, cirugía y ortopedia.
Se participó en un total de 200 consultas, de las cuales 163 (81%) fueron caninos y
37 (19%) fueron felinos. Los principales motivos de consulta fueron respecto a
dermatología, medicina preventiva y ortopedia.
En el área dermatológica, se atendieron un total de 49 pacientes con diversidad de
signos clínicos, siendo los principales y más comunes el prurito, alopecia, irritación
de la piel, lamido excesivo y mal olor.
Se participó en un total de 114 cirugías, donde predominaron las castraciones
(46.49%), seguidas de cirugías de tejidos blandos (31.57%) y ortopedia (21.93%).
En el caso de las castraciones, la distribución entre ovariohisterectomía y
orquiectomía fue muy similar (26 machos, 27 hembras).
The internship was carried out for eight weeks, for a total of 400 hours, at San Martín del Este Veterinary Clinic, located in Sabanilla, Montes de Oca. The clinic handles general consultations in pet animals, it provides the specialty services of dermatology, surgery, and orthopedics. We participated in a total of 200 consultations, of which 163 (81%) were canines and 37 (19%) were felines. Among the most common reasons for consultation were dermatology, preventive medicine, and orthopedics. In the dermatological area, a total of 49 patients with an assortment of clinical signs were treated, the main and most common being pruritus, alopecia, skin irritation, excessive licking, and bad smell. We performed a total of 114 surgeries, where castrations were the most prevailing (46.49%), followed by soft tissue surgeries (31.57%) and orthopedics (21.93%). In the case of castrations, the distribution between ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy was practically identical.
