The research topic focuses on the analysis of the savings and credit services provided by the Banco Popular cooperative “Coopebanpo R. L.” to contribute to the sustainable human development of its members during the period 2003, 2004, 2005, with the primary objective of determining whether actions are being taken to meet the basic needs of its members in terms of education, food, health, housing, recreation, and clothing. To this end, four variables are analyzed: “Financial Management of Savings and Credit,” to determine which area is prioritized more, or conversely, whether this behavior is equitable and how members utilize the credit lines; “Eligibility Criteria,” which measures members’ access to existing product lines; “Service Portfolio,” which reveals the link between the selected lines of credit with the highest demand and the fulfillment of basic needs established in the research; and finally, “Interest Rates,” which measures the cooperative’s average lending and borrowing rates relative to the average lending and borrowing rates set by the Central Bank of Costa Rica for the National Financial System. These variables are defined based on the following scope: member profile; the concept of Sustainable Human Development for the purposes of this research; analysis is conducted in Costa Rican colones; and the products considered
