An internship was performed at the Small Animal Clinic at the Veterinary University of Hannover (KFK-TiHo), Germany, and at the Clínica Veterinaria San Juan (CVSJ) in La Unión, Tres Ríos, Costa Rica in a period of nine weeks, from September to November 2021. It was achieved a total of 423 hours of work (270 hours at KFK-TiHo and 153 hours at CVSJ), where 188 patients were treated. Information on each patient was recorded, the reason for the veterinary appointment, the procedures that were done and their respective outcome, for the purpose of comparing and analyzing by charts the information taken from both veterinary clinics. A total of 159 canines and 29 felines were attended in both KFK-TiHo and CVSJ. There was participation in different areas such as Surgery, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging and Anesthesia at KFK-TiHo, and in Preventive Medicine, Surgery, and Internal medicine at CVSJ. Neurology cases seen at KFK-TiHo represented most of the consults due to its vast experience in the field. Also, gastrointestinal diseases and preventive medicine were the main reasons for medical appointments at CVSJ. In addition, most of the surgeries in which there was more participation were soft tissue procedures in both clinics. With every approach of the cases, it became evident the importance of each anamnesis for every patient, the veterinarian’s capacity to observe, analyze and teamwork with trained veterinarians in different fields, to achieve the right diagnosis and give the best treatment possible for our dogs and cats.
