This graduation seminar addresses the role that companies play today in society, the community, the environment, the economy, and people, the way they interact, and their importance to the individuals within the organizations. In addition, the most important aspects of the obligations and commitments assumed toward society are analyzed and described. Therefore, it is essential that these be assumed by both companies and their constituents so that the actions taken are carried out and generate a common benefit. Considering the current business situation in Costa Rica, and having a general understanding of the great importance of companies adopting social responsibility practices, it is essential that organizations understand that they have a responsibility to society, communities, and the environment; that all people within the organization be encouraged to take part in this commitment and, thus, achieve a collective awareness. Organizations, as entities that contribute to a country's sustainability, are expected to focus part of their contributions on promoting social responsibility in all its aspects. This entails an effort to reduce negative impacts in various areas: in society, we could mention inequality, unemployment, and injustice; in the economy, the lack of investment programs that generate consistent profitability for the benefit of organizations, workers, and the community; in the environment, through the failure to use new technologies and the excessive expenditure of natural resources such as water and energy; and in people, whose personal and professional development can be limited. For all of the above, a background must be generated at the corporate level, allowing organizations and institutions to understand the different aspects of Social Responsibility and take actions that contribute to society, the environment, and people.
