Cirugía ortopédica en el Veterinary Health Center de Kansas State University y en el Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria, Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica

Abstract

Se realizó una pasantía mixta en el Veterinary Health Center (VHC) de Kansas State University del 4 al 31 Mayo del 2015 y en el Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres(HEMS) de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica del 8 de Junio al 5 de Julio del 2015, con una duración de cuatro semanas en cada institución, abordando casos ortopédicos con requerimientos quirúrgicos para su tratamiento.Se sometieron 117 pacientes a procedimientos quirúrgicos, de los cuales 69 fueron en el VHS de Kansas State y 48 en el HEMS de la Universidad Nacional. El padecimiento mayormente tratado fue la ruptura de ligamento cruzado craneal (RLCC), este fue corregido con técnicas distintas dependiendo de características y necesidades del paciente y de la experiencia de los cirujanos. Por esta razón se consideró importante el desarrollo de un caso clínico de RLCC desde su consulta hasta su recuperación post quirúrgica mediante Osteotomía Nivelatoria del Plato Tibial (TPLO).

The internship was performed at the Veterinary Health Center (VHC) of Kansas State University from May 4th to May 31st of 2015 and at the Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres (HEMS) of the National University of Costa Rica from June 8th to July 5th of 2015.With a duration of four weeks per institution, approaching orthopedic cases with surgical requirements for its treatment.117 patients were submitted tosurgical procedures, of which 69 were in the VHC of Kansas State University and 48 of the HEMS of the National University of Costa Rica.The condition that was most commonly treated was rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament (RLCC), which was corrected with different techniques depending on the characteristics and needs of the patient and the experience of theirsurgeons. For this reason the development of the clinical case of RLCC was considered importantfrom its examination to its post-surgical recovery, using Tibial Plate Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO).
