As of 2009, the Agroforestry Systems (PSA) submodality with Coffee was created in Fonafifo known as SAF-Coffee, with the aim of promoting the use of timber species as shade for coffee cultivation. The cantons of Pérez Zeledón and Dota have the highest percentage of trees planted under the SAF-Café modality in Fonafifo. This percentage corresponds to 46.2% of the total number of trees contracted between 2010 and 2013; For this reason, this area was chosen for the evaluation. For this, each of the files corresponding to the contracts during that period of time was analyzed for a total of 142 projects. From these, a 30% sample was taken, which was visited to obtain the owner's perception; In addition, field measurements were carried out to assess quality. According to field data, there are problems with the regential monitoring of the contracts due to the concentration of projects in only three forest managers, non-compliance with the regulations set by Fonafifo and little technical advice to the beneficiaries or owners of the contracts. On the other hand, agroforestry systems with timber species with great economic potential and of very good quality were found. Consequently, conclusions and recommendations were made regarding procedures, project monitoring, and improvement of forest manager information, training, and transfer of experience to beneficiaries.
