The purpose of this article is to present the Interdisciplinary Project Deprived of Humanity (PPH), an initiative aimed at contributing to social self-emancipation, not so much of the "scourges" of crime and imprisonment per se, but of the deep - and circumstantial - causes that have catapulted these two phenomena to such prominence in our current Latin American societies. The article seeks to describe the set of interactions between structural-systemic factors, specific political, economic and cultural elements, and the consciousness of the social subjects who live immersed in the phenomena that make up the criminality system and the prison universe in 21st century Latin America. The project emerged from the application of the theoretical and methodological advances of the work of the Rolando García Chair of Humanism, Complexity and Interdiscipline (CRG) (2015-2017) and the Ibn Khaldun Chair of New Humanism, Hypercomplexity and Intergnosis (CIJ) (2018-2021). Its purpose was the construction of a process of interdisciplinary research/intergnosis on the evolution of the phenomena of criminality and the prison universe in the country and throughout the Latin American region. These phenomena occupy a central place in the most serious problems afflicting Costa Rica and Latin America in general, at the present time.
