The Lutjanidae family is the main fish resource in the Gulf of Nicoya, being the mancha snapper, Lutjanus guttatus, the most important species of this family. Due to the abundance of this species in the fishery of this region, it was considered necessary to study the main feeding aspects. on reproduction and feeding. The research was carried out from January 1993 to January 1994. The sex ratio of 1, 2: 1 (male-female), the catch sizes of males and females throughout the sampling fluctuated between 12, 0 and 60 cm and 14.0 to 57 cm in total length respectively. The species does not present external sexual dimorphism. It presents two reproductive maximums (April and October respectively). Females have asynchronous vitelogenesis. Males reach their first sexual maturity between 32.0 and 32.9 cm. And the females between 33.0 and 33.9 cm. Absolute fertility ranged from 1,363,000 to 60,454 oocytes.
