One way to do a bibliometric study is to examine each of the records that make up a database, each record and extracting key areas that may disclose relevant information about the use of the database and documents in the collection. This article shows how a reference database allows to obtain important data that can reach conclusions that in some cases surprising. To perform this study used the following fields of Data Base Control Documentary Indigenous Ethnic Groups in Costa Rica 1979-2003: author, place of publication, publisher, year, language and support. The database analyzed with two thousand records and was developed in the program Winisis. Moreover, analysis of documents was made after processing of the data, which was to export the records Winisis software program Excel. After this information was extracted from their chosen fields and are held by their respective separate table or graph to present the results obtained. Furthermore, we show the application of different methods to learn more about the scientific aspects such as: Price Index, the Index of Living Media, the aging factor and Collaboration Index. This contribution will first, so that students in the course of the race Metric Studies of Library Science and Documentation at the National University, demonstrate and practice what is learned in this area. It also can take advantage of professionals from different areas, such as anthropologists, sociologists, linguists and librarians, among others.
